Our grassroot pangolin conservation awareness creation continues….
Our collaboration with One Health and Development Initiative to reach local communities and schools continues on a beautiful note as we create awareness about pangolins in Ikire community. Ikire is a town in Osun State, in southwestern Nigeria. Ikire can be called the gateway town to the State of Osun. It is within the basin of the famous River Osun.
Three secondary schools in Ikire and the esteemed palace of the king of Ikire, HRH OBA OLATUNDE FALABI Akire of Ikire, were visited.
The gathering at the Kings palace had headhunters and traditional rulers from diverse local communities present. There were over 130 stakeholders, including Community Chiefs (Baales) from 45 villages. This unified effort aims to enlighten the younger generation and community leaders about the significance of pangolins in our ecosystem and the need to conserve them.
Pangolins play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance. Let us empower future generations and community influencers with knowledge about these unique creatures and why they should be preserved.
